New Orleans City Council Approves
3-1-1 Consolidation With OPCD and Extends Operating Agreement

NEW ORLEANS, LA (December 20, 2018) – The New Orleans City Council passed an ordinance today in its regular session authorizing the City of New Orleans and the Orleans Parish Communication District (OPCD) to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement (CEA) that will consolidate the city’s 3-1-1 service with OPCD and extends the existing 9-1-1 services for at least the next five (5) years.

The ordinance sponsored by Council President Jason Williams passed unanimously in support of Mayor Cantrell’s work to improve efficiencies and increase services to residents.  After the transition is complete, 3-1-1 services will be available 24/7 with increased functionality allowing citizens to submit service requests on-line.

“OPCD is excited about the opportunity to bring best practices and increased service to the residents of this great city.  It just makes sense”, says OPCD Executive Director Tyrell Morris.  The ordinance will now go to Mayor Cantrell for signature.

About the Orleans Parish Communication District

Formed in 1982, the Orleans Parish Communication District is the PSAP for all emergency communications via 9-1-1 within Orleans Parish.  The agency employs over 150 individuals and provides emergency medical dispatch, emergency fire dispatch, and emergency police dispatch for the millions of annual visitors and residents of the City of New Orleans.  OPCD is a member of the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).
